Roadbook Paso Mayer

How to get from Chile to Argentina through Paso Mayer with a bicycle.

At Villa O'Higgins (Chile), the Carretera Austral stops and there is no road to go further south. The standard way for cyclist is to cross the lakes and ride to El Chalten (Argentina), but the boats service only runs during high season, from begining of november to april roughly and is bit expansive, about 100US$ as for 2011.

So if you get to Villa O'Higgins when there is no boat service or if the price is a problem for you, the closest other option to go to Argentina is Paso Mayer.

The following pdf file sums up what we remembered from our crossing, with the help of Ian and Andre that crossed there about a month before us.
